One can use this method to square numbers away from 500 as long as it is comfortable to square the difference portions.

- This method uses the concept (500 + a)2 = [(250 + a) 100] + a2, where ‘(500 + a)’ is the number near 500 and ‘a’ is difference.
- Whenever the number is more than 500, the difference is written as positive (+ve).
- Whenever the number is less than 500, the difference is written as negative (-ve).
